Junk journaling is about recording everyday life using everyday materials. So of course a lot of these come in the form of garbage and trash and things we encounter without even thinking about it. When artfully arranged, these can make some really beautiful spreads, but even more importantly, it records a moment in time that in the recording can really have some meaning. I'm Faith Hale, an artist, a craftsperson, and an avid junk journaler. In this Daily Practice, we'll be learning a new technique or making a new spread every single day. These will include movable elements, words, images, and of course a lot of junk. Committing to the dailyness of it is really important for me, and because I'm not basing this around a special occasion, because it's based around the every day and makes it much easier to do it every day. My Achilles heel in art making is when I get too precious about things or put too much pressure on myself. So when I'm using discarded materials as art, it really lowers the possibility of me getting tripped up. I'll be providing guidance on certain techniques or formulas, but because you'll be using the stuff you collect in your daily life, your junk journal will be totally unique to you.
