SPOILING A NOTEBOOK...

is a workshop designed for anyone who, faced with a blank page, isn’t sure where to start. This class works especially well for teachers, bartenders, musicians, pipefitters, and anyone else who isn’t sure about “being a writer” but still has stories to tell. Based on the teaching practice of MacArthur “genius” grant winner Lynda Barry, the class will surprise you with memories you’ve forgotten, inspire you with playful exercises, and encourage you with enthusiastic acceptance.
Come one, come all!

Dan Kois is a journalist, editor, and author. He’s a longtime writer and podcaster at Slate magazine and the author of four books: Vintage Contemporaries, a novel published in 2023; How to Be a Family, a parenting memoir published in 2019; The World Only Spins Forward (with Isaac Butler) , a history of the play “Angels in America” published in 2018; and Facing Future, a book of music history and criticism published in 2011.
