Donnie Darko: Fifteen years before Stranger Things combined science-fiction, Spielberg-ian touches, and 80s nostalgia to much acclaim, Richard Kelly set the template. Set in a quiet 1980s suburb, troubled teen Donnie (Jake Gyllenhaal) narrowly escapes a freak accident and begins receiving apocalyptic visions from a cryptic figure in a rabbit costume. As reality fractures and time distorts, Donnie becomes entangled in a cosmic riddle that defies logic and threatens everyone around him. This film is rated R.
