Event Details

Before the COVID pandemic of 2020, Kansans suffered from a history of infectious diseases that ran rampant throughout the state: Spanish Influenza, cholera, diphtheria. Kansas State Department of Health employee and history lecturer Tom Fleming and Kansas State Emeritus Professor Greg Stephens will discuss how Kansas suffered and responded to fatal diseases that plagued the state, from the Native Americans, to the first homesteading pioneers, up to our present population.

Instructor Tom Fleming is a data analyst with the Kansas Department of Health.  Tom has presented and written exhaustively on the history of Central Kansas.  He is the author of Prairie Tapestry: A Tale of Kansas Homesteaders and Their Fight For Survival.

Instructor Greg Stephens has volunteered for Salina Media Connection for over 25 years. Greg also teaches in the Technology Management program at K-State Polytechnic.
