Program Description

Event Details

Caroline Amelia Nation, often referred to as Hatchet Granny, was a radical member of the temperance movement. She was famous for using a hatchet to demolish barrooms before prohibition. She lived in Medicine Lodge, Kansas. In 1899 she attacked her first saloon in Kiowa, Kansas. Mrs. Johnson will give a presentation on Nation’s years as an anti-alcohol advocate; and fearless, even unhinged reformer who would go to any length to stop people from alcoholism.
