Program Description

Event Details

Playing the game of chess offers players a unique opportunity for lifelong learning including strategy, tactics and concentration. Each week, chess instructors Dwight Ford of Anatoly Karpov School of Chess and Glenn Gustitus will support players with handouts and encourage the use of strategy through instruction before club play. While playing, you will learn common patterns, how to methodically build a position, set traps and analyze variations depending on your level of play.

Fall Chess Clubs runs each Tuesday in October, the 5-26.

Instructor Dwight Ford is the current President of the Anatoly Karpov School of Chess in Lindsborg.  He helps with teaching kids and adults beginning chess fundamentals and tactics. He manages the "Social Chess Hour" in Lindsborg on Monday evenings for adults and is a volunteer with the Salina Area Chess Club. He teaches a tactics class in the fall for middle school aged youth.

Instructor Glenn Gustitus holds a Master of Arts in psychology and specializes in child and adolescent counseling. He has been playing and teaching the benefits of chess as president of the Salina Area Chess Club. He is the social outreach committee chair with the Anatoly Karpov Chess School of Lindsborg.
